UI simplifying ideas

Here is one idea how to simplify user interface. After selecting between main tabs user can see list of main categories. For example list of tools categories.

http://goedel.uiah.fi/projects/calibrate/attachment/ticket/168/Tool1.png?format=raw

It does not matter is the user member of ToolBox? or not. The view is same for members and for guest.

In the beginning the list can be without categories. Categories will be defined by ToolBox? administrator when there is more items.

User can click on categories and look items of content or activities or tools. He can also read comments and information about persons.

In the top of page there is always link – Add Content (or activity or tool – it depends on what tab user is). After clicking on Add link user must login or become a member.

Login is also needed when user wants to create annotation.

Some additional ideas for general screen layout

When user is not member jet in the top of content list can be category – Featured content (or activity or tool)

When user is already member of ToolBox? view of main tabs can be filtered based on user profile information. In the top of list can be category - My staff and favourites. And in second place category – New staff (content or activity or tools)

The UI is neat! Keep it simple. Less is more! Remember the HumanInterfaceGuidelines and add your design decisions in when the decisions are made.

Browsing content should be like in Yahoo Directory (http://dir.yahoo.com/). An example:

Languages (with a list of the most commonly used 3 or lnaguages from the user preferences)

-> list of laguages

-> single language with list of content in that language
