Information about recommended authoring tools

The user should use comfortable editors for developing different types of Learning Objects (text, picture, video, sound ... etc.).

The system is able to make a suggestion about what kind of offline editors are on the market, and what kind of format should be used to share content in LeMill (list about the the offline editors with some useful information).

The online editor helps the user to customize the learning object; online editor for texts could be like a Wiki page editor, other media elements are developed offline.

Isn't this information basically something that community should be posting into Tools-section of LeMill?

I suggest that we add into Tools creation form checkboxes like these:

If you check these boxes, this Tool is suggested as authoring Tool when creating content.

• _ You can author Pieces with this Tool.
• _ You can compose Materials with this Tool.
• _ You can compose Presentations with this Tool.

In left content portlet there is a link to 'Useful Tools' that takes to page in Tools section that collects all suitable authoring Tools.

Yes, this approach would take care of the problem of the list becoming obsolete. But it probably wouldn't take too long for "PowerPoint?" to appear as a recommended tool.

Like Jukka wrote. Information about desktop authoring tools for images, audio and video will be in the Tools section. So, there is no need for some other guidelines of the tools to be written / hard coded to the system.

Accroding to our current design the following things are no more possible:

• You can compose Materials with this Tool.
• You can compose Presentations with this Tool

..as you can only upload pieces to the system, so we may forget these point.

The PowerPoint? will be in the Tools and it is fine. We will just edit the story to be honestly telling for what the PP is good for (e.g. for doing presentations for lectures, presentations etc. and not for authoring online content.
