Description (last modified by hans) (diff)

It is possible to upload only this kind of pieces that render properly in modern web browsers with latest Flash Player installed.

The following types of Pieces are allowed:

  • Images: .jpeg, .gif, .png
  • Audio: .mp3
  • Video: .mp4 .mov .mpg .3gp .mpeg .wmv .avi
  • Flash: .swf

We support only these audio and video files that can be played with flash-based media player in the browser. Only then it is possible to embed audio and video files to learning materials.

Audio files are played using XSPF Web Music Player. Unfortunately this player supports only mp3 files. If somebody knows a player that support more formats (or is otherwise better), we should replace the player.

Video files are played using FlowPlayer. This player supports a wide variety of video formats, but video files must be converted to FLV format. This means that ffmpeg must be installed together with LeMill. This will limit LeMill to only Linux servers and make installation process more complicated. Therefore we should have a possibility to install LeMill without support for Video pieces (#474).

Beside the Flash player there should be a link for downloading the audio/video to your local harddisk.

I trust that you Hans made a proper benchmarking of the audio/video players. Beside the "flash" player there should be a link for downloading the audio/video for your local harddisk.

"Therefore we should have a possibility to install LeMill without support for Video pieces (#474)".

I agree. Also if one do not have a flash player the media file should be there for downloading.

Seems ok to me. We'll need to think about storage of videos and audio, since they're not optimal in the default database (meaning ExtFiles?).
