Limited tagspaces

Reported by: hans Owned by: teemu
Priority: major Milestone: 0.8 Fehérlófia
Component: generic Version:
Keywords: Cc:
Time spent: Time remaining:
Time planned: 2h

Description

We should limit the amount of results that we display for a user when she has clicked on a tag. Therefore we should have the following tag spaces:

  • content tagspace (includes tags from pieces and materials)
  • activities tagspace
  • tools tagspace
  • community tagspace (maybe it has to be separated to several tagspaces later)

When user clicks on a tag, only the results from that tagspace will be displayed.

An example:

User is browsing the content. She finds a photo of Eiffel tower and clicks on a tag france. As a result the following resources will be listed:

  • all materials with tag france (under subtitle Materials)
  • all pieces with tag france (under subtitle Pieces, after the materials)
  • link View X activities with a tag france (if there are activities with that tag)
  • link View X tools with a tag france (if there are tools with that tag)

This approach has the following benefits:

  • better differentiation between materials and pieces (and activities and tools)
  • we guide users to view also activities and tools with that tag
  • less results - easier to browse

Tagspaces are great and already implemented, but I don't agree with this Materials first, then Pieces -approach. If there are lots of results, then pieces can start at page n, and when you're searching for something that gets lots of results, you're probably looking for a piece and it's irritating to have these materials always thrown at you. Alphabetical order by title gives easier navigation in cases when you know what you're looking for. When browsing results, there should be links 'show only pieces' or 'show only materials', and inactive 'show pieces and materials' before results.

Have a look at this page. Then you will understand why it is important to have materials before the pieces:
