Description (last modified by tarmo) (diff)

The default view of all the material should be "full screen view" showing only the content without any widgets. In the top of the page there should be a little bar with two links:

  1. "LeMill" - link to the front page of the LeMill instance
  1. "Edit, Versions, Tips, Copies and more..." - link to the page with all the widgets in the left side (the current material view)

Use this xhtml/css when creating the fullscreen view template: http://www.hanspoldoja.net/temp/2006-08-04-lemill/

I personally think that fullscreen view can't be the default view. Imagine that every time you click on some material you will get a quite different view. I will make browsing the system quite annoying experience.

Fullscreen view is good for:

  • linking the content to learning environment or some other website
  • sending link to the content in e-mail
  • for anonymous users

I am also not happy with "Control panel". It sounds too much like Windows 95. Maybe "Normal view"?

Hans: "I personally think that fullscreen view can't be the default view. Imagine that every time you click on some material you will get a quite different view. I will make browsing the system quite annoying experience."

I do not agree. Arguments:

(1) We should think what is important for the people using the material. Is is the "widgets" we designed or is it the "content" the LeMill is offering for them? 90% of tghe people are anyway just using the material. They simply do not care about the "widgets".

(2) I do not understand how the fullscren/default view would make "browsing the system quite annoying experience"? I have understood that in LeMill the "back button" works just fine, so from the material page you simply go back by pressing the "back button". Also the "green bar in the top" will communicate that this is "lemill" content, and the links in there will lead you to the main page or to a view with the controls / widgets.

(3) I also do not understand that how "every time you click on some material you will get a quite different view"? The material views made with the templates are very standard views. Or do you have some other plans Hans? In the mateial page the bar in the up will make it easy to get the "controls" visible if you want to use them - most people just don't care.

Fullscreen view is good for:

  • linking the content to learning environment or some other website
  • sending link to the content in e-mail
  • for anonymous users

I agree. This is covering more than 95% of the LeMill users. Who do you primary want to serve?

I am also not happy with "Control panel". It sounds too much like Windows 95. Maybe "Normal view"?

I agree. Control panel might be problematic, though that it is. "Normal view" is not good if the "full screen" will be the default view and in this case the "normal view". I am proposing a link with some keywords from the widgets "Edit, Versions, Tips, Copies and more". All the words should be a single link opening the "widget bar" in a "normal view with the ssection navigation.

OK. I agree with Teemu. "Edit, Versions, Tips, Copies and more..." is also OK.

  • Owner teemu deleted
  • Status changed from assigned to new

I'm sure Teemu isn't going to implement it.

I'm thinking that when people aren't logged in, they aren't shown the left side portlets anyway. Isn't that full screen enough?
